An 18th century Chinese export porcelain saucer dating to the Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period. The interior is decorated in the Mandarin famille rose palette with a detailed figural scene depicting figures and children within a garden and pavilion setting. The central scene is surrounded by an elaborate border of puce diaper patterns, floral reserves and iron red ornament, with gilt details. The shaped rim and colorful narrative decoration give the saucer the distinctive character associated with Chinese export porcelain of the period.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Mandarin palette porcelain became an important category of Chinese export ware during the later 18th century, particularly for European markets. Figural scenes depicting domestic life, gardens and architectural settings are characteristic features of this decorative tradition.
