DESCRIPTION

An attractive 18th century Chinese export porcelain saucer decorated in the Mandarin famille rose palette during the Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period. The central scene depicts four Chinese figures in a garden setting, wearing colourful robes and surrounded by architectural features, trees and a distant waterside landscape. Finely painted in pink, turquoise, blue, yellow and iron red enamels, with delicate black outlining and gilt highlights. The decorative border features shaped panels containing pink monochrome landscape scenes, alternating with floral reserves and ornamental gilt scrollwork. Despite restoration, the saucer retains its vibrant colours and decorative character.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Mandarin pattern porcelain was particularly fashionable in European markets during the second half of the 18th century. These richly decorated wares frequently featured scenes of Chinese domestic life, elegant figures, gardens and pavilions, reflecting European interest in Chinoiserie. This example represents the colourful character of Qianlong period Chinese export porcelain and remains an interesting piece for collectors.
