DESCRIPTION

An attractive small Chinese porcelain saucer featuring a delicate combination of underglaze cobalt blue, iron-red enamel, green highlights and gilt decoration. The shallow central well is surrounded by a continuous band of stylised floral and foliate motifs, framed by a rich blue decorative border and fine gilt rim. The exterior displays subtle rice grain style decoration beneath a pale translucent glaze, while the underside has an unglazed circular foot. A charming example of Chinese decorative porcelain with balanced proportions and lively hand-painted detailing.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Chinese porcelain of the Republic period continued many traditional Qing dynasty decorative techniques while introducing new interpretations of classical designs. The combination of underglaze blue, coloured enamels and gilding reflects the decorative variety associated with 20th-century Chinese porcelain production. Pieces associated with Jiangxi porcelain workshops are collected for their craftsmanship, regional history and distinctive painted decoration.
