DESCRIPTION
A decorative 19th century Chinese export porcelain saucer dating to the Qing Dynasty, finely hand-painted in the Canton Mandarin famille rose palette. The central scene depicts four elegantly dressed figures gathered in a traditional Chinese courtyard garden, surrounded by architectural details, stone steps and leafy trees. The figures wear colourful robes in shades of blue, pink, green and purple, with two holding traditional fans. The broad border is richly decorated with colourful flowers, butterflies, fruit and foliage against a gilt ground, finished with an iron-red and gilt rim. The vibrant enamel colours and detailed figure painting give this saucer the distinctive character of Canton export porcelain.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Canton famille rose porcelain became particularly popular during the 19th century, when richly decorated wares were produced for European and American export markets. Mandarin figure scenes, elaborate floral borders and gilded details are characteristic features of this decorative tradition. Despite its historic repairs, this saucer remains an attractive example of Qing Dynasty export porcelain, offering strong decorative appeal and collecting interest.
