DESCRIPTION

An 18th century Chinese porcelain platter dating to the Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period. The shaped rectangular body is finely decorated in famille rose enamels with a central arrangement of pink, purple, yellow and blue flowers among delicate green foliage. Further floral sprays decorate the broad border, framed by distinctive iron-red and gilt chain-pattern bands. The shaped rim retains gilt detailing, giving the platter an elegant and richly decorative character typical of Qianlong-period export porcelain.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Famille rose porcelain flourished during the 18th century, allowing Chinese decorators to create refined floral compositions in a broad palette of opaque enamels. Elaborately bordered serving wares of this type were produced in considerable variety during the Qianlong period and remain popular with collectors of Chinese export porcelain.
