DESCRIPTION
An attractive Chinese octagonal porcelain plate dating to the Qing Dynasty, attributed to the Qianlong period of the 18th century. The central well is finely decorated in Famille Rose enamels with flowering peonies, chrysanthemums and delicate blossoms arranged around ornamental garden rocks. The composition features vibrant iron red, pink, green and cobalt blue enamels, complemented by gilt highlights and fine painted details. The broad octagonal rim is decorated with colourful floral sprays, including peonies and scrolling foliage, enclosed by an elegant iron red and gilt border. A delicate repeating floral pattern surrounds the central well, adding refinement to the overall design. The plate displays the decorative richness and balanced composition characteristic of Chinese export porcelain of the Qianlong period.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Famille Rose porcelain flourished during the Qianlong reign (1736-1795), when richly coloured enamel decoration became highly desirable in both Chinese domestic and European export markets. Peonies symbolise prosperity, wealth and honour, while chrysanthemums represent longevity and refinement. The combination of flowering garden motifs, ornamental rocks and an elegant octagonal form reflects the artistic taste and decorative traditions of 18th-century Chinese porcelain. An appealing example for collectors of Qing Dynasty ceramics and Chinese export porcelain.
