DESCRIPTION

A Chinese Qing dynasty porcelain plate decorated in the Chinese Imari palette of cobalt blue, iron red, turquoise and gilt.

The composition features a brightly colored bird beneath flowering peony branches, accompanied by a finely painted insect in the open central field.

Large peony blossoms and dense cobalt blue foliage dominate the upper section, with additional flowering and fruiting branches around the plate.

Gilt outlines and details enrich the flowers and foliage, creating a lively contrast against the pale porcelain ground.

An attractive early Qing decorative plate with a naturalistic and asymmetrical composition.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Chinese Imari porcelain developed as a distinctive decorative style combining underglaze cobalt blue with iron red enamels, additional colors and gilding.
