DESCRIPTION
An attractive Chinese export porcelain plate dating to the Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period, 18th century. Finely decorated in the famille rose palette with a colourful central arrangement of flowering peonies, chrysanthemums, delicate bamboo branches and green foliage. The composition features vibrant orange, pink and white blossoms with carefully painted leaves and fine botanical details. The broad rim is decorated with scattered floral sprays and flowering branches in pink, orange and green enamels, framed by a simple double-line border. The plate has an elegant shallow form with a gently sloping cavetto, displaying the refined decorative character associated with Chinese famille rose export porcelain of the period.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Famille rose porcelain became particularly popular during the Yongzheng and Qianlong periods, when Chinese workshops developed a sophisticated range of soft pink, green and orange enamels. Peonies traditionally symbolise prosperity, honour and beauty, while chrysanthemums are associated with longevity and refinement. Such floral motifs were frequently used on Chinese export porcelain and could carry auspicious meanings suitable for wedding gifts and special occasions. An appealing example for collectors of 18th-century Chinese porcelain and Qing Dynasty famille rose ceramics.
