CONDITION

DESCRIPTION

An 18th century Chinese export porcelain plate decorated in cobalt blue underglaze. The central design depicts flowering branches, butterflies and garden elements surrounding a pierced scholar rock and fenced terrace. The border is richly decorated with floral and fruit motifs in alternating cartouches. The painting displays strong hand drawn character with varying blue tones typical of Qianlong export porcelain.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Blue and white export porcelain from the Qianlong era was widely traded throughout Europe during the 18th century. Garden scenes with butterflies and floral subjects reflected popular decorative themes of the period.
