DESCRIPTION
An attractive Chinese export porcelain deep plate dating to the Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period, 18th century. Decorated in traditional underglaze cobalt blue with a detailed riverside landscape featuring pagodas, pavilions, figures, boats, pine trees and distant buildings. The central scene depicts a peaceful waterside setting with architectural details and natural scenery, surrounded by a delicate scrolling border. The broad, slightly shaped rim is richly decorated with floral sprays, geometric patterns and ornamental panels. The plate displays the characteristic craftsmanship and decorative style associated with Chinese export porcelain of the Qianlong period. Old metal staple repairs to the reverse reflect its historical use and preservation.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Chinese blue and white export porcelain was widely produced during the 18th century for European markets, with landscape scenes among the most popular decorative subjects. The Qianlong period (1736-1795) is particularly associated with the extensive export of finely decorated porcelain. The surviving metal staple repairs provide an interesting example of traditional ceramic restoration, when damaged porcelain was carefully repaired rather than discarded. An appealing decorative piece for collectors of Qing Dynasty ceramics and antique Chinese export porcelain.
