CONDITION

DESCRIPTION

A large Chinese blue and white porcelain plate decorated with an animated river landscape scene. The center shows waterside buildings, figures, fishing boats, and mountainous scenery painted in varying cobalt tones. The rim is finished with a geometric diaper border interspersed with floral reserve panels. The reverse displays simple bamboo leaf sprays in underglaze blue. A decorative Qing period example with strong visual appeal.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Blue and white landscape porcelains remained highly popular throughout the Qing dynasty, reflecting traditional Chinese ideals of harmony between nature and daily life. Diaper borders were commonly used on export and domestic wares to frame central scenic compositions. Bamboo motifs symbolized resilience and integrity in Chinese art.
