CONDITION

DESCRIPTION

A Chinese blue and white porcelain plate decorated with a scenic river landscape in the Canton manner. The central scene shows pavilions, trees, distant islands, and bridges painted in rich cobalt blue tones. The border features alternating blue bands and stylized scroll motifs surrounding the interior reserve. The underside remains plain with an unmarked foot rim. A decorative Qing period export example with strong visual character.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Blue and white export porcelain from the Qing period was widely traded throughout Europe and America during the 19th century. Canton landscape scenes remained especially popular for their picturesque compositions and bold cobalt decoration. Pieces with visible kiln flaws and hand-painted irregularities are characteristic of traditional production methods.
