DESCRIPTION

An attractive Chinese Export porcelain American helmet shaped pitcher dating to the Qianlong period of the 18th century.
The body is decorated with a finely painted sepia harbor or shipyard scene enclosed within a rich blue and gilt medallion.
Additional underglaze blue floral sprigs decorate the sides, while the rim features an elegant gilt and blue border.
Raised on a flared pedestal foot with a distinctive molded handle, this is a classic example of Chinese Export porcelain produced for the Western market.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

American helmet pitchers were produced in China during the late 18th century specifically for export to Europe and America.
Examples with finely executed sepia landscapes and blue and gilt borders are highly sought after for their decorative appeal and historical significance within Chinese Export porcelain collecting.
