DESCRIPTION
Chinese porcelain plate painted in underglaze blue with the Daoist immortal Zhong Li standing beside a pine tree on a rocky riverbank. A sailing boat crosses the water behind him, with distant mountains, flowering plants and a simple fence completing the scene. Double blue circles frame the central composition, surrounded by a broad plain border and narrow lattice-pattern band along the brown-dressed rim. The reverse is undecorated, with a glazed base and raised circular foot.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Zhong Li Quan is one of the Eight Daoist Immortals and is associated with longevity. The figural subject, finely drawn pine foliage and restrained border give this plate particular appeal for collectors of Chinese narrative decoration.
