DESCRIPTION
A Chinese porcelain ginger jar of baluster form decorated in a famille verte palette. The body features finely outlined figural scenes associated with the Romance of the Western Chamber, depicting elegant figures within garden and terrace settings. The principal panels are framed by dense scrolling floral borders, flower heads and shaped reserves containing botanical motifs. Green enamels dominate the palette with iron red, blue and black details, while geometric ornament decorates the shoulder. An attractive Qing period decorative piece with strong narrative imagery and traditional famille verte character.
