DESCRIPTION
Chinese Qing Dynasty porcelain cup and saucer dating to the Qianlong period of the 18th century. Both pieces have shaped rims and are decorated in famille rose enamels with grazing deer among flowering plants, bamboo and rockwork. Gilt details enrich the polychrome decoration, while the saucer is framed by an underglaze blue ornamental border. The cup carries related decoration around its exterior and a small enamel motif within the well. An attractive period set combining delicate famille rose enameling with distinctive blue border decoration.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Famille rose porcelain flourished during the Qianlong period, allowing Qing decorators to produce a broad palette of delicate pinks, greens and other enamel colors. Deer are a traditional Chinese symbol associated with longevity and prosperity, making them a desirable decorative subject on 18th-century porcelain.
