DESCRIPTION
An attractive 18th century Chinese export porcelain tea bowl dating to the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, decorated in the Mandarin famille rose palette. The exterior features a charming scene of a seated mother and child, with the mother wearing a turquoise robe with purple accents and the child dressed in orange. Both figures are depicted beside a decorative garden table within a tranquil landscape of trees, branches and delicate foliage. The composition is painted in soft famille rose enamels with fine black outlines, iron-red highlights and subtle gilt detailing. The interior remains predominantly white, finished with a delicate iron-red ornamental border beneath the rim. The bowl has gently rounded sides, a slightly flared lip and a neatly formed circular foot.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Mandarin famille rose porcelain was highly fashionable during the Qianlong period, particularly among European collectors of Chinese export ceramics. Domestic scenes featuring women and children were popular decorative subjects, reflecting an appreciation for family life and traditional Chinese garden settings. This tea bowl is a pleasing example of 18th century export porcelain, combining expressive figure painting with the delicate enamel colours characteristic of the period.
