DESCRIPTION

An attractive 18th century Chinese export porcelain cup dating to the Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period. The shaped body has a scalloped rim and is finely decorated in Mandarin famille rose enamels with figures, including ladies and attendants, arranged among garden furniture, trees and architectural details. Bright turquoise, pink, blue and iron-red enamels are complemented by gilt decoration. The small scale, shaped profile and lively figural painting give the piece considerable decorative character.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Mandarin palette porcelain was produced extensively for the European export market during the 18th century and is admired for its detailed figural scenes and colorful enamel decoration. Small surviving vessels of this type provide an appealing example of Qing period export porcelain and the decorative tastes of the Qianlong era.
