DESCRIPTION

An attractive Chinese porcelain cup dating to the Qing Dynasty, 19th century, decorated in the traditional Canton Famille Rose style. The exterior features finely painted Mandarin court scenes with elegantly dressed figures in interior settings, surrounded by elaborate floral scrollwork in vibrant green, pink, turquoise and gold enamels. Additional decorative panels depict colourful birds, butterflies, flowering branches and foliage. The cup has gently rounded sides, a circular foot and a gilt-edged rim, while the interior is finished in a plain pale glaze. A decorative example of Canton export porcelain, displaying the rich colours and intricate ornamentation characteristic of the period.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Canton Famille Rose porcelain was widely produced for the export market during the 19th century and became particularly popular among European collectors. Mandarin figure scenes, colourful floral reserves and densely ornamented borders are characteristic features of this decorative tradition. This cup represents an appealing example of Qing Dynasty export porcelain and would complement a collection of Chinese ceramics.
