DESCRIPTION

An attractive Chinese porcelain bowl dating to the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, 18th century. Decorated in the Mandarin famille rose palette with finely painted figures in traditional robes, set within detailed garden and architectural landscapes. The exterior features vibrant pink, orange, green and purple enamels, complemented by elaborate gilt scrollwork and patterned borders. Additional decorative panels depict birds and a hawk scene among trees and natural surroundings. The interior is predominantly white, with a delicate red enamel floral sprig to the centre and an ornamental border beneath the rim. A charming example of Chinese export porcelain with characteristic Qianlong period decoration.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Mandarin famille rose porcelain was particularly fashionable during the Qianlong period, when Chinese workshops produced richly enamelled wares for the European export market. These pieces are admired for their colourful figure scenes, intricate landscapes and elaborate gilded borders. This small bowl offers an appealing example of 18th-century Chinese decorative porcelain, retaining considerable visual interest despite its historical damage and restoration.
