CONDITION

DESCRIPTION

Fine Chinese export porcelain plate decorated in the Imari palette of underglaze blue, iron red and gilt. The central panel shows bamboo and flowering plants beside a decorative vase within a patterned border. The wide rim is richly painted with scrolling floral motifs and gilt highlights. A well balanced and decorative example from the Kangxi export period.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Chinese Imari porcelain was produced for export markets during the late Kangxi and early Qing periods, inspired by Japanese Imari wares popular in Europe. These colorful pieces combined cobalt blue, iron red and gilt decoration to appeal to Western tastes. Early examples remain highly collectible for their vibrant palette and detailed hand painting.
