DESCRIPTION
A finely modeled Blanc de Chine porcelain figure representing Lady Magu, the Daoist goddess of longevity and immortality.
She stands beside a deer and carries a basket filled with flowers, symbols associated with health, prosperity, and long life.
Beautifully sculpted with flowing robes, trailing ribbons, and intricate floral details in the characteristic creamy white Dehua porcelain.
The deer is a traditional symbol of accomplishment, reward, and wealth, while the flower basket represents vitality and blessings.
Raised on a molded rockwork style rectangular base and marked underneath.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Lady Magu, also known as Ma Gu Xian Shou, is one of the most popular female immortals in Chinese folklore and Daoist tradition.
She is commonly depicted carrying peaches or baskets of herbs and flowers associated with longevity and is often accompanied by a deer.
Dehua Blanc de Chine figures of Magu were highly prized both in China and in export markets for their elegant modeling and spiritual symbolism.
Well-preserved examples remain sought after by collectors of Chinese porcelain and religious art.
