DESCRIPTION

A Chinese cloisonne enamel vase of compact baluster form, decorated with a colorful sinuous dragon set against a dense white ground of scrolling cloud motifs. The dragon is rendered in yellow, green, turquoise, red and pink enamels with fine metal outlines, while the neck carries a blue and yellow ruyi-style border. Green wave-like decoration appears near the foot, complemented by gilt-tone metal rims at the mouth and base. The vase has a strong traditional Chinese decorative character and displays visible age and handling wear.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Dragon and cloud imagery has a long history in Chinese decorative arts and was widely employed on cloisonne objects. This 20th century example follows earlier Qing and Republic period decorative traditions, combining auspicious imagery with colorful enamel work.
