DESCRIPTION

A decorative Victorian English porcelain tea cup and saucer dating to the 19th century. Both pieces feature delicate floral sprays in shades of pink, purple and green, arranged across an ivory white ground with fine gilt stems and ornamental details. Scalloped rims are highlighted with gilt edging and radiating gilt accents, while the cup has an elegant shaped handle and gently moulded body. The combination of naturalistic floral decoration, shaped borders and extensive gilding gives the set a refined Victorian character. An attractive period tea set offered as a decorative and collectible example despite the restored saucer.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Floral tea wares with elaborate gilding and shaped rims were characteristic of British porcelain production during the Victorian period. Unmarked examples can be difficult to attribute to a specific Staffordshire factory, but remain collectible for their decorative quality, traditional forms and distinctly 19th century character.
