DESCRIPTION

Fine Japanese Arita porcelain saucer dating to the Meiji period. Decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with dense floral and scrolling chrysanthemum patterns surrounding a central garden scene. The scalloped rim and delicate brushwork reflect traditional late Edo to Meiji export porcelain styles. The reverse is painted with simple floral sprays and bears a four character mark to the base. An attractive example of 19th century Japanese blue and white porcelain.

Arita porcelain from the Meiji era is highly regarded for its refined cobalt decoration and skilled hand painting. Blue and white wares of this type were widely exported and remain popular with collectors of Japanese ceramics and Asian decorative arts.
