DESCRIPTION

An original signed oil painting by British artist Jack Merriott (1901-1968), depicting a picturesque landscape dominated by castle ruins above an old stone arched bridge and river. Two small figures beside the water add scale and life to the composition. Merriott employs lively, heavily textured brushwork with fresh greens, blues, ochres and warm stone colours, creating a particularly bright and atmospheric scene. Signed JACK MERRIOTT at the lower left and presented in a wooden frame. A highly decorative example of Merriott’s distinctive British landscape painting.
