DESCRIPTION
A charming vintage round wooden snuff box decorated with a colorful hand painted floral and geometric design. The lid features a central stylized flower surrounded by smaller blossoms and radiating turquoise, black and orange motifs, creating a distinctive folk art appearance. Fine craquelure throughout the painted surface gives the decoration an attractive aged character. The sides retain a warm orange finish, while the interior has been left largely natural and shows the turned wooden construction. Compact and highly decorative, this small box would make an appealing addition to a collection of vintage snuff boxes, folk art or miniature wooden objects.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Small hand decorated wooden boxes were produced in many European and international folk art traditions during the 20th century, often using bright floral and geometric ornament. Without a maker’s mark or documented provenance, a specific country of manufacture cannot be confidently assigned to this example. Its colorful hand painted decoration and naturally aged surface give it particular decorative and collecting appeal.
