DESCRIPTION
An English porcelain saucer attributed to Spode, dating to circa 1820 and decorated in the blue and white Broseley pattern. The central scene depicts a pagoda within a stylized Chinese landscape, surrounded by trees, buildings, and ornamental borders. A dense geometric border with floral devices decorates the shaped rim, finished with a gilt edge. The rich cobalt blue decoration contrasts attractively with the pale porcelain body and reflects the strong Chinese influence found in early 19th century Staffordshire wares.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
The Broseley pattern is closely associated with Spode and forms part of the enduring British taste for Chinese-inspired decoration during the Regency period. Early 19th century blue and white Spode wares remain popular with collectors of Staffordshire ceramics and English porcelain.
