DESCRIPTION
An English porcelain plate decorated in the elaborate Worcester Dragons in Compartments pattern, associated with late 18th and 19th-century Worcester wares. The design is arranged around a central flower medallion with radiating red and green points, surrounded by shaped compartments containing colorful stylized animals, flowers and ornamental objects. A bright green dotted ground, iron red borders, cobalt blue details and extensive gilding give the plate a particularly rich decorative character. The shaped rim is finished with a gilt edge and repeating geometric and floral panels.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
The Dragons in Compartments pattern is a recognized Worcester decorative design combining exotic animal imagery with colorful compartmentalized ornament inspired by Asian decorative traditions. Comparable Worcester examples are found in both museum, auction and specialist dealer collections, reflecting the enduring appeal of this distinctive pattern among collectors of English ceramics.
