DESCRIPTION

An attractive antique English porcelain tea bowl and saucer, attributed to New Hall, decorated in the Chinese-inspired Boy in the Window pattern. The finely painted design features figures in a garden setting beside an orange architectural structure, surrounded by vivid iron-red, pink, green and blue enamels. The distinctive border combines pink crosshatching, white floral reserves and bold orange decorative panels. Both pieces display the characteristic colourful decoration associated with early English interpretations of Chinese famille rose porcelain. A charming period tea set with strong decorative appeal and traditional Oriental-inspired character.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

New Hall porcelain is closely associated with the development of English hard-paste porcelain during the late Georgian period. Chinese-inspired patterns, including the popular Boy in the Window design, reflect the strong influence of imported Chinese export porcelain on English ceramic production. Such tea bowls and saucers are collected for their historical interest, colourful hand-painted decoration and distinctive early English porcelain craftsmanship.
