📜 Description
Finely painted famille rose armorial dish, decorated in the center with the magnificent arms of Visconti and Cusani of Milan. The arms are enclosed within a demi-ruyi-head border around the well, with a delicate cell diaper border around the cavetto. The rim is painted with two sprays of fans and peonies alternating with two sprays of iris and fungi, interspersed with four shaded rose hibiscus blossoms, all contained within a brown and gilt whorl band at the edge.

Collector’s Notes: This rare Yongzheng period Italian-market armorial service is traditionally attributed to a marriage commission for Giulio Visconti of Milan, created a Knight of the Golden Fleece in 1721, and his second wife Teresa Cusani. Italian armorial porcelain of this quality and date is significantly scarcer than later Qianlong examples. Related pieces from this service are recorded in major institutional and private collections, and illustrated in David Sanctuary Howard’s Chinese Armorial Porcelain, making this an auction-house safe and well-documented service.
