DESCRIPTION

A finely carved Chinese bamboo brush pot decorated with an intricate riverside landscape in deep relief. The continuous scene features traditional sailing boats, figures, trees and rustic buildings, all executed with skilled craftsmanship. The bamboo has developed a rich brown patina through age and handling, enhancing the depth of the carving. A handsome example of a Qing Dynasty scholar’s desk object.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Carved bamboo brush pots were prized objects on the desks of Chinese scholars during the Qing Dynasty. They combined practical use with artistic expression, often depicting peaceful landscapes that reflected the ideals of the literati. Well-carved examples remain highly sought after by collectors of Chinese works of art.
