DESCRIPTION
A Chinese white glazed porcelain figurine modeled in the Blanc de Chine tradition, depicting the Buddhist figure Guanyin standing in flowing robes and holding a lotus blossom. The figure is finely molded with a serene facial expression, elegant drapery and delicate hand details. She stands above a raised pedestal decorated in relief with lotus leaves, buds and stems. The monochrome white glaze emphasizes the sculptural modeling and gives the piece the characteristic restrained appearance associated with Dehua style porcelain. A decorative example suited to a collection of Chinese porcelain, Buddhist art or Asian decorative objects.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Blanc de Chine, meaning “white from China,” is the European name traditionally associated with the distinctive white porcelain wares of Dehua in Fujian province. Guanyin figures became among the most recognizable forms associated with this tradition, and later examples continued the established Dehua aesthetic of luminous white glaze and graceful sculptural modeling.
