DESCRIPTION

A small Chinese porcelain saucer dish decorated in the famille jaune palette on a vivid yellow ground. The broad border is filled with repeating stylized scrolling motifs outlined in dark enamel and punctuated by colorful floral sprays in pink, red, blue, and green. The recessed central well is left predominantly white, creating a strong contrast with the richly decorated border. The exterior is plain white glazed porcelain and the recessed base is unmarked. The form is suitable as a small saucer or gaiwan stand.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Famille jaune decoration uses a distinctive yellow enamel ground combined with polychrome floral and traditional Chinese ornamental motifs. Later 20th century examples continued decorative conventions derived from earlier Qing porcelain and remain attractive additions to collections of Chinese tea wares and decorative ceramics.
