DESCRIPTION

An attractive Chinese porcelain handled wine cup decorated in the Imari palette, dating to the Qing Dynasty, Kangxi period. The exterior features flowering peonies, delicate floral sprays and basket motifs painted in iron-red and gilt over cobalt blue decoration. The cylindrical body has a gently tapered base and a small loop handle with additional painted details. The combination of blue underglaze and warm enamel colours gives the piece a distinctive early Chinese export porcelain character.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Chinese Imari porcelain became popular during the late Kangxi period, particularly for export to European markets. Inspired by Japanese Imari wares, these pieces combined underglaze blue with iron-red enamels and gilding. Small handled cups of this type are interesting examples of early 18th-century Chinese export ceramics.
