CONDITION

DESCRIPTION

A Chinese 20th century porcelain vase in the Longquan celadon tradition, formed with a flattened baluster body, waisted neck, flared mouth and shaped foot. The vase is covered in an olive-green monochrome glaze displaying an extensive network of fine crackling. The front is moulded with a shaped panel containing a prominent lotus flower surrounded by scrolling foliage and stylized ornament. The flattened profile and sculptural contours complement the restrained monochrome palette, while natural variations in the glaze give the surface considerable depth and character.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Celadon wares have a long history in Chinese ceramics, with Longquan traditions particularly celebrated for their green glazes and carved or moulded decoration. Later examples continued to reinterpret these historic forms and lotus motifs, making them attractive decorative pieces for collectors of Chinese monochrome ceramics.
