DESCRIPTION

A charming miniature Chinese porcelain vase dating to the Qing Dynasty, decorated in the colorful Canton Rose palette. The baluster-shaped body rises to a slender neck and flared rim, with hand-painted birds among flowering plants, fruit, butterflies and abundant green foliage. Pink, green, orange, blue and yellow enamels are complemented by gilt and orange borders around the shoulder and rim. The lively decoration continues around the vase, giving the small piece an attractive appearance from all sides. Its compact scale and traditional Cantonese decoration make it a distinctive display piece.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Canton decorated porcelain became particularly popular during the 19th century, when brightly enameled Chinese wares were produced for both domestic and export markets. Miniature examples retain the elaborate floral, bird and insect decoration associated with larger Canton Rose wares while offering an appealing small format for collectors.
