DESCRIPTION
An attractive Chinese porcelain teapot with its fitted cover, dating to the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty in the 18th century. The rounded body is finely decorated in famille rose enamels with flowering roses, delicate blossoms, butterflies, and insects in shades of pink, green, purple, and iron red. A distinctive pink diaper-pattern border with gilt scrollwork surrounds the shoulder, complemented by a matching domed cover with floral sprays and a pointed finial. The teapot features an elegant curved spout and a loop handle with moulded detailing. The white glazed ground provides a pleasing contrast to the colourful enamel decoration, reflecting the refined ornamental character of Chinese export porcelain of the period.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Famille rose porcelain became particularly fashionable during the Yongzheng and Qianlong reigns, when Chinese workshops developed increasingly sophisticated enamel palettes for domestic and European export markets. Floral teapots with elaborate borders and gilt accents were especially popular among European collectors and tea-drinking households during the 18th century. This example retains its decorative appeal and period character despite the condition issues noted above.
