DESCRIPTION

An 18th century Chinese blue and white porcelain saucer dating to the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. The interior is painted in underglaze blue with an extensive waterside landscape featuring pagoda-style buildings, trees, distant mountains, small figures and boats. A decorative blue border follows the gently scalloped rim. The composition displays the detailed landscape decoration associated with Chinese export porcelain of the period. The underside is undecorated and raised on a circular foot rim.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Chinese blue and white landscape wares were widely produced during the Qianlong period for both domestic and export markets. Detailed river landscapes with pavilions, boats and mountainous scenery became particularly popular decorative subjects and remain a recognizable collecting category within 18th century Chinese porcelain.
