DESCRIPTION
An attractive 18th century Chinese export porcelain saucer decorated in the Mandarin famille rose palette during the Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period. The central scene depicts Chinese figures engaged in conversation beside a pavilion, with a riverboat, architectural structures, trees and distant mountains forming a detailed landscape. The composition is finely painted in turquoise, yellow, pink, iron red and black enamels, with delicate shading and gilt highlights. The elaborate border features pink monochrome landscape panels alternating with floral reserves, iron red scrollwork and richly gilded ornamentation. A charming example of Chinese export porcelain, retaining much of its original colour and decorative appeal.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Mandarin pattern porcelain was highly fashionable in Europe during the second half of the 18th century, particularly during the Qianlong reign. These wares often featured elaborate figural scenes depicting Chinese social life, gardens, pavilions and riverside landscapes, reflecting European enthusiasm for Chinoiserie. This saucer is a characteristic example of the richly decorated porcelain produced for the European export market.
