DESCRIPTION
An attractive 18th century Chinese export porcelain saucer decorated in the Mandarin famille rose palette during the Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period. The central scene depicts four Chinese figures gathered around a table in a garden setting, wearing colourful robes in turquoise, blue, pink and iron red. A flowering tree, garden furniture and distant waterside landscape complete the composition. The decorative border features alternating floral reserves and black enamel botanical motifs, surrounded by intricate iron red scrollwork with gilt highlights. The finely painted figures and vibrant enamels give the saucer an appealing decorative character, typical of Chinese porcelain produced for the European export market.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Mandarin pattern porcelain became particularly popular in Europe during the second half of the 18th century. These wares often featured colourful scenes of Chinese domestic life, elegant figures and garden settings, reflecting the European fascination with Chinoiserie. This example illustrates the characteristic figural decoration and ornamental borders associated with Qianlong period Chinese export porcelain.
