DESCRIPTION
A richly decorated 19th century Chinese Qing Dynasty porcelain saucer in the Canton famille rose medallion style. The interior is densely painted with alternating reserves of court figures and abundant floral compositions featuring roses, birds, fruit, butterflies, and foliage. Bright pink, green, blue, orange, and iron-red enamels are complemented by extensive gilt scrolling ornament and a gilt rim. A small floral medallion forms the central focus, while the reverse is glazed white and bears an iron-red seal mark.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Canton famille rose medallion porcelain became an important Chinese export ware during the 19th century and is recognized for its densely arranged figural and floral decoration. Examples combining Mandarin court scenes, birds, flowers, butterflies, and gilding remain popular with collectors of Qing Dynasty export porcelain.
