DESCRIPTION

A richly decorated 19th century Chinese Qing Dynasty porcelain saucer painted in the Canton famille rose palette. The surface is densely arranged with shaped reserves depicting Mandarin court figures alternating with colorful birds, butterflies, flowers, and foliage. Pink, green, orange, blue, and iron-red enamels are enhanced by extensive gilt scrolling ornament and borders. A central floral and bird medallion provides the focal point, surrounded by elaborate foliate decoration. The reverse is plain glazed porcelain with an unmarked foot.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Canton famille rose porcelain was produced in China in considerable quantities during the 19th century, particularly for export markets. Elaborate figural scenes, floral reserves, birds, butterflies, brilliant enamels, and gilding are characteristic features sought by collectors of Qing Dynasty export porcelain.
