CONDITION

FAIR/RESTORED (2/5) – Extensively broken and rivet repaired with numerous original metal staple repairs visible on the reverse. Associated hairlines, restored breaks, rim frits, and wear to the gilding consistent with age. Please review the photos carefully for more details.

DESCRIPTION

An 18th century Chinese export porcelain deep plate decorated in the Famille Rose palette with a Mandarin scene. The central decoration depicts an elegant seated lady attended by two figures before a riverside landscape, framed by a purple diaper border with floral and landscape cartouches. Fine gilt detailing remains around the rim and border. An authentic period example displaying traditional historic staple repairs.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Chinese export Famille Rose porcelain from the Qianlong period was highly prized in Europe and often remained in use for generations. Before modern restoration methods, damaged porcelain was commonly repaired using metal staples, a historic conservation technique that is now appreciated as part of an object’s history and provenance.
