DESCRIPTION

An attractive Chinese porcelain plate dating to the Qing Dynasty, attributed to the Yongzheng period of the 18th century. The central well is decorated with flowering peonies in Famille Rose enamels, featuring delicate pink, iron red and gilt tones contrasted against dark foliage with fine gilded details. The broad rim displays an elaborate arrangement of lotus blossoms, lingzhi motifs and flowering branches, surrounding an intricate yellow and iron red geometric floral border. A dark enamel outer band enriched with gilt interlacing completes the decorative composition. The reverse features simple iron red floral sprays and old metal staple repairs, reflecting the plate’s long history. A decorative example of early Qing Dynasty polychrome porcelain with richly detailed floral ornament.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Famille Rose porcelain flourished during the Yongzheng reign (1723-1735), celebrated for its refined enamel colours and elegant floral designs. Peonies traditionally symbolise wealth and honour, while lotus flowers represent purity and lingzhi is associated with longevity in Chinese decorative art. The surviving metal staple repairs are an interesting example of historical ceramic restoration, adding character to this 18th-century collecting and display piece.
