DESCRIPTION

A Chinese porcelain bowl dating to the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, decorated in the Chinese Imari palette of underglaze cobalt blue, iron red and gilt highlights. The exterior is painted with large flowering peonies, smaller floral sprays, bamboo and stylized rockwork. The interior has a small central floral motif with a decorative geometric and floral border beneath the rim. The bowl has a rounded profile raised on a circular foot, with an attractive pale blue-white glaze and strong period character.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Chinese Imari porcelain became particularly fashionable during the late Kangxi period, combining Chinese decorative traditions with a palette associated with Japanese Imari wares. Early 18th century examples were produced extensively for export and remain popular with collectors of Qing Dynasty porcelain.
