DESCRIPTION

A decorative Chinese porcelain cup and saucer painted in a rich combination of underglaze cobalt blue, iron red, pink enamels and gilt highlights. Both pieces display radiating alternating panels filled with stylized floral and scrolling ornament, creating a lively and balanced composition. The borders are finished with iron red scrolling designs and delicate floral details, while gilt rims provide a refined finishing accent. The cup and saucer display well together and retain strong color and attractive period character.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Chinese polychrome export porcelains combining underglaze blue with overglaze iron red, pink enamels and gilding were highly prized in European collections during the early 18th century. Patterns traditionally associated by collectors with Queen Charlotte reflect the enduring European taste for richly decorated Chinese porcelain.
