DESCRIPTION

An attractive 18th century Chinese export porcelain tea bowl dating to the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, decorated in the Mandarin famille rose palette. The exterior features a charming continuous garden scene with Chinese figures and children dressed in colourful robes of turquoise, blue, yellow and iron red. The figures are depicted around a garden table, accompanied by trees, rocky landscapes and architectural elements, creating a lively narrative composition. Delicate iron-red and gilt accents enhance the finely painted decoration, while the interior is finished with a narrow iron-red border and a small floral sprig at the centre. The bowl has a gently flared rim, rounded sides and a neatly formed circular foot, displaying the characteristic elegance of 18th century Chinese export porcelain.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Mandarin famille rose porcelain was particularly popular during the Qianlong period, when Chinese workshops produced colourful figural scenes for the European export market. Depictions of children at play, family gatherings and garden activities were admired for their lively character and decorative appeal. This tea bowl is a pleasing example of Qing Dynasty export porcelain, combining traditional Chinese storytelling with the fashionable enamel palette of the 18th century.
