DESCRIPTION

A Chinese Canton famille rose porcelain pouch money vase with a pale celadon glazed ground. The body is richly decorated with gilt coin medallions, colorful floral sprays, birds, insects, and auspicious motifs. The vase features molded gilt lion mask handles and a scalloped rim. An attractive decorative example of late Qing export porcelain.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Pouch money vases are distinctive forms associated with prosperity and good fortune in Chinese decorative arts. Canton enamel decorated examples from the Tongzhi period remain popular with collectors for their vibrant palette, elaborate gilding, and symbolic decoration.
