DESCRIPTION
An attractive Chinese porcelain bowl and matching saucer decorated in the traditional rice grain style, associated with Jingdezhen porcelain production during the Republic period. The bowl features a gently flared profile with translucent rice grain motifs visible within the pale porcelain body, complemented by finely painted floral sprays in iron red, green, yellow, and gold. Decorative cobalt blue geometric borders frame the upper rim and lower body, while gilt detailing adds refinement to the overall design. The interior displays further rice grain decoration, blue floral motifs, and small iron-red auspicious symbols. The matching saucer carries coordinated floral ornament and blue borders, creating a pleasing and decorative porcelain set.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Rice grain porcelain, also known as Linglong ware, is a distinctive Chinese ceramic technique involving translucent rice-shaped openings filled with glaze during manufacture. Jingdezhen workshops developed this decorative tradition over several centuries, with production continuing into the Republic period and beyond. The Jiangxi Ciye Gongsi mark is associated with the Jiangxi Porcelain Company, established in the early 20th century, although the mark alone does not establish an exact production date. This set offers an interesting example of Chinese porcelain combining traditional translucent decoration with colourful enamels and gilding.
